I was able to figure out the issue. Here's just a snip from my notes, might be worth a read if someone else needs help:There are a few things to keep in mind when distributing files via GP.

I created a package using the MSI. You can use ORCA to modify the attributes for things like the Java Installer. I got a windows 7 version from someone on the forums, so I could work from my laptop.You make the group policy object and add the files to the software section. I made a special security group that houses all the client computers for our facility.

When making the group you can simply look in the domain computers section, and easily filter them out to add to the group via the advance search option. Only takes about a minuet to do this way.You need to put the file you plan to distribute on a file share, use only a UNC path when adding it to your software package on GP, and give the file, and folders, the 'authenticated users' rights set to full. I also gave 'everyone' full rights, not sure if that was needed.After doing this you also have to make sure these three settings are enabled for these computers! I'm not sure if it was one of these settings, or the combination of all of them, but this got it working:'Administrative TemplatesSystemLogonAlw ays wait for the network at computer startup and logon' Set to enabled.'
